The Cedar Falls Christian Writers’ Workshop is held each year in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Our 2010 conference will be held from June 9-12. Featured speakers are husband and wife team, Mark and Jeanette Littleton.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide an intimate environment for writers to hone their craft and learn from experienced professionals.
Mark Littleton is a graduate of Colgate University(A.B., 1972) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M., 1977). He is a former pastor and youth pastor, but now speaks at churches, retreats, conferences and other gatherings as a writer, often using his books as sources for series. He is happily married to Jeanette Gardner and has four children: Nicole, Alisha, Gardner and Elizabeth, who think Mark is the greatest father ever.
Mark has written for numerous publications, among them Reader's Digest, The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Evening Sun, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Moody Monthly, Today's Christian Woman, Discipleship Journal, Leadership, Sunday Digest, and Power for Living. He is also the author of over ninety-eight books which have collectively sold over one million copies, including:Beefin' Up, Real Feed for Amazing Grazing: A Teen Devotional (Multnomah) -- nominated for the Gold Medallion Award, 1990; the Sports Heroes Series books for boys ages 8-13 (a Zondervan bestseller, with over 210,000 sold); Light the Torch, Pass the Flame, with Jeanette Littleton (Beacon Hill); The NIRV Kids’ Devotional, for preteens(Zondervan); The Edge Devotional Bible (Zonderkidz); The 100 Most Important Verses for Women (W); 101 Amazing Truths About Jesus You Probably Didn’t Know (Howard); The Ten-Second Prayer Principle: Praying Powerfully As You Go (Howard); What’s In the Bible for Teens (Bethany House; The Bible Bathroom Book (Howard); Big Bad God of the Bible (AMG).
Jeanette Littleton is a fulltime freelance writer and editor who has published one middle reader novel (The Mystery of the Emerald Isle), one gift book of fiction stories(Hugs for Coffee-Lovers), and several nonfiction books for adults (Twelve Who Dared and When Your Teen Goes Astray). She has also written several books with her husband: What’s In the Bible for Teens; Rockets, Rebels, and Rescues; and The 100 Most Important Bible Verses for Women. She has also worked on devotional and compilation books for Barbour, Adams-Media, Bethany House, Tyndale, Howard, Readers Digest Books, and others. Jeanette has authored over 4000 magazine and devotional articles. She is a graduate of C.U.B.I.(Christ Unlimited Bible Institute) in Kansas City, Missouri and has worked for many years in the publishing industry, for Youth For Christ -- Kansas City, the Nazarene Publishing House, Moody Magazine, and Beacon Hill Press. She has worked as a freelance editor and writer for Thomas Nelson, Zondervan, David C. Cook, The Haggai Institute, Youth Specialties, Nazarene Publishing House, Barbour Publishing, Israel My Glory, Christianity Today, Answers in Genesis, and many others publishing houses.
Shelly Beach is a fulltime freelance writer and speaker whose first novel, Hallie’s Heart Kregel Publications), won a 2008 Christy Award for contemporary Christian fiction. That same year, Shelly’s first nonfiction book, Precious Lord, Take My Hand: Meditations for Caregivers (Discovery House Publishers), was a finalist in the Gift and Inspiration category for the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Precious Lord is now in its 6th printing and has sold tens of thousands of copies. Shelly is also the author of a second caregiving release, Ambushed by Grace: Help and Hope on the Caregiving Journey (Discovery House Publishers). Her second novel, Morningsong, released in June of 2009. Her most recent book is The Silent Seduction of Self-Talk: Conforming Deadly Thought Patterns to the Word of God (Moody Publications). Shelly is also a contributor to the forthcoming Pastor’s Resource Bible (Crossway) and the NIV Stewardship Study Bible (Zondervan). She has also authored numerous articles that have appeared in publications ranging from regional magazines to Moody Magazine and Focus on the Family.
Shelly is the co-founder of the Cedar Falls Christian Writer’s Workshop in Iowa and the Breathe Christian Writer’s Workshop near Grand Haven, Michigan. She speaks across the nation at conferences, seminars, and retreats on writing, caregiving, and spiritual formation. She and her husband Dan have two adult children and live in Sparta, Michigan, where they enjoy riding their Harley Davidson.
