Speaking

Shelly Beach is an engaging speaker for Christian, secular, and school groups. Her humor, candor, transparency, and heart for encouragement inspire audiences and bring hope to her listeners.

Shelly customizes her programs for churches, women’s groups, conferences, schools, conventions, writers’ conferences and workshops, family caregiver groups, and professional health care providers.

Shelly is the author of three books: Ambushed By Grace, Precious Lord, Take My Hand (Discovery House Publishers, April 2007), a collection of meditations for caregivers, and Hallie’s Heart, (Kregel Publishers, April 2007), a contemporary novel. Her writing has appeared in God Allows U-Turns for Women, The Presbyterian Journal, Focus on the Family, and many other national publications.

Shelly is a co-founder of the Cedar Falls Christian Writers' Workshop at Riverview Conference Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa and is a member of the Christian Authors’ Network. Join her June 10-13, 2009, when the Workshop’s featured presenters will be nationally recognized authors and speakers Dennis Hensley and Tracy Groot.

Topics

Below you will find a listing of selected topics. Please contact me to discuss your specific needs, as additional topics are available, and I am able to tailor my speaking to your audience and purposes.

Leaning into the Curves: Embracing God in Life’s Mind-Boggling Moments
Have you ever looked at your life and wondered how God could really be in control? Shelly uses humor and experiences as a motorcycle biker to show listeners the meaning of abandonment to God.

Get Into the Basket: Caregiving and a View from Above
As caregivers, we’re often so bogged down in the day-to-day routine of our tasks that we miss the big picture. Shelly’s hilarious experience as a passenger in a hot air balloon gives listeners a new perspective on the eternal destination of the road they walk.

Lessons from a Dead Man on a Pole: The Transforming Power of Praise
Using a powerful personal story of despair transformed by truth, Shelly shares principles of praise that impact our relationships with God and those around us. Be refreshed in spirit as you learn life-changing principles of praise.

Building Bylines: Various sessions
Learn the secrets of the professionals and move toward your writing goals, whether it’s your first byline or your first novel. Sessions include:

  • Getting Started: What You Need in Your Hand and What You Need in Your Heart
  • Building Bylines: 101 Article Ideas at Your Fingertips
  • Writing Queries
  • Writing Proposals
  • What Every Editor Wish You Knew
  • Secrets to Pressing On When You’d Rather Cave In

So You Want to Be a Writer?
Geared toward middle school and high school audiences, this presentation gives students a sense of what the “writing life” is like and how to get there. Shelly speaks about the importance of passion, purpose, craft, and truth as she relates her own writing journey.

The Silent Seduction of Self-Talk: Turning Up the Volume on Our Inner Blabbermouth
We talk to ourselves at more than 1,300 words per minute, often carrying on conversations that are so deceptive, we fool even ourselves. Learn how the P's planted in Eve's self-talk impact our thinking today. One-day sessions to three-day seminars.
